How to join Upper Deerfield Volunteer Fire Company #3:
Eventually, you will be able to fill out a complete
application right online. For the time being, choose one
of the following:

1) Stop by the fire house and pick up an application. Since it
is an all volunteer department, the fire house is not always
staffed. Feel free to stop in any time you see cars in the
parking lot or people around the building, or approach any
member you may see out in the community. You can also
contact the firehouse before coming by calling
856-455-6566 to ensure someone will be there.

2) Email the following information to Join@udvfc.com:
Your full name
Date of birth
Daytime and evening phone numbers
Home address
Social Security number (kept in utmost privacy)
Driver's Licence number
Also, tell us a little bit about yourself, what led you to your
interest in joining our company, and whether you have any
experience in emergency service.
In addition to the information listed above, the
Company will need the following before any applicant
can become an active member:

1) At some point, you will need to fill out the standard paper
application. The application is five simple pages including a
release of information form to allow the Company to
complete a standard background check, a medical release
form signed by a physician stating you are physically able to
perform the duties of an active member, an emergency
contact information form, and a finger printing form to be
completed by the New Jersey State Police for our records.
The physical exam can be set up by the Company with the
Township's physicians at no cost to you if you so desire.

2) Copies of your driver's licence, social security card, and
any pertinent certifications you may already hold.

3) You will need to attend one monthly meeting, at which
time you will be introduced to the membership and final
approval will be made.

This may sound like a lot, but it is very simple and in the
end, very rewarding.
Almost anyone can become a
volunteer firefighter. No prior
experience or emergency
services-related certifications
are required. All necessary
training is either provided
in-house or at the Cumberland
County Department of Public
Safety's training facilities in
Deerfield Township.

If you are not interested in
becoming a firefighter, but
would still like to assist our
Company and your
community, you can still join.
All fire companies require
individuals who can help
maintain records, perform
secretarial duties, assist with
fund raisers, write grant
applications, and perform a
wide variety of tasks that allow
us to continue to serve.

For those who do join and
become firefighters, we do
stress training and require a
certain number of drills and
classes be attended per year.
We will also gladly send any
member to any course they
desire that may, in any way,
benefit our cause.

Because many people believe
that this is a job that they can't
do, we would ask that anyone
who is interested, contact the
firehouse or stop in and visit.
Any member would be happy
to explain the particulars.

Thank you.
