03-01-08 2008 Hours Motor Vehicle Accident / Rescue Assignment In front of 650 Irving Ave

Dispatched at 2008 hours with
Station 32 (Seabrook Fire &
Rescue), Squad 34 (UD EMS), and
Life Support 7 for Motor Vehicle
Accident reported with vehicle on
fire. Car 32 w/ Chief 32-31 arrived
on location, reported a
three-vehicle MVA with negative
fire and positive dual entrapment.
Life Support 6 out of Vineland was
added to the alarm for the second
entrapped patient. Engine 3301
arrived on location and "Irving
Avenue Command" was
established by Assistant Chief
33-33 (David Rogers, Jr). A total of
seven patients were on location
with only one BLS unit initially
responding, prompting the addition
of Squad 7 (Bridgeton Fire
Department EMS) and Squad 29
(Rosenhayn Fire & Rescue) to be
dispatched. Additionally, Station 7
(Bridgeton Fire Department) was
dispatched to South Jersey
Healthcare's Landing Zone located
in the City of Bridgeton at Bridgeton
Health Center for a helicopter
stand-by. A second landing zone
was established in the field of a
local farm by Township units.
Seabrook Fire & Rescue extricated
both patients from the same vehicle
from either side simultaneously,
and despite the heavy entrapment,
was able to complete the rescue in
under fifteen minutes.
Two Patients were flown to area
trauma centers with unspecified
injuries, with a third being
transported to South Jersey
Healthcare's Regional Medical
Center in Vineland City, and the
remaining four patients on location
(all from the third vehicle) refused
any medical attention. Township
Fire and Rescue units remained on
the scene until approximately 2330
hours while the New Jersey State
Police conducted an investigation
and the scene was cleared. The
Cumberland County Road
Department was contacted to
provide sand to assist in clearing
the large amount of fluids in the
roadway.
As of the time of this publishing, the
conditions of the patients were
unknown.
